From JISC’s perspective it was essential that this system (called the PIMS – Programme Information Management System) was built using open source technologies and (because JISC was initially unsure of its requirements) developed using an agile project management methodology.

JISC’s Programme Information Management System (PIMS) was launched in 2006 and it has since become a core system for JISC programme managers. Futurate continue to maintain, develop and support the platform on JISC’s behalf.

For JISC, effectively tracking a project’s progress from inception to completion is critical, as is ensuring that a formal but fairly ‘light-touch’ project management methodology is adopted by grant holders. In response to this need JISC commissioned Futurate to develop a sophisticated management information system that could be used by both JISC staff and grant holders for tracking projects, storing contacts and reporting.
